December 2009 New book on Marine Insurance
Dear Readers,
I would like you to visit www.witherbyinsurance.com-one of the most reputed publishers of books on insurance and shipping. If you go to Topics and then Coming Soon, you would find details of a forthcoming title on Marine Cargo Insurance authored by a dear friend of mine, K.S.Vishwanath (Vish as he is know to his friends). While the book gives old and latest case laws upto 2009, essentially the book is a treatise on practical aspects and modern trends of marine insurance business in various developed markets.
As the website quotes me, I have found the book "original, profound and unprecedented."
This book,like all technical books, is likely to be pricey! However if you go through the list of topics, there is hardly an aspect of marine cargo insurance that has been left untouched by this author. I know the hard work done by Vish and the extent of research undertaken by him since I too shared some of my experience with him.
As the website says this book definitely addresses the frustration of all of us that standard books on insurance seldom give a solution to the problems that we encounter with insurance aspects of transportation of goods-whether as underwriters, claims adjusters or as purchasers of marine cargo insurance.
I have no hesitation in recommending this book to all who are committed to excellence in the management of hazards associated with transportation of goods.
The book will be released in January 2010.

The International Union of Marine Insurance Conference will take place in Vancouver from September 14th to 17th. This is the second time that IUMI has been hosted in Canada. The first Conference took place in September 2004 in Toronto. I had the honor and privilege of chairing the organizing committee for the Toronto Conference.

April 2008 Yacht Workshop Huntsville May 2008
The IBAO will be hosting a full day workshop on pleasure craft insurance. The first part of the wokshop will address boat policies. The second half will focus on commercial marine liabilities including marina operator legal liability boat repairer legal liability and boat dealer legal liability. There will also be a section on boat builders risks. The facilitator will be Alan Jervis.
